Durant's Comments About Orlando are Harmless

What is wrong with what Kevin Durant said?

The comment that got Orlando sports fans all riled up was this one:

“Like I'm the reason why [expletive] Orlando couldn't make the playoffs for five, six years in a row?” Durant told USA Today Sports in an article published Friday.

“Am I the reason that Brooklyn gave all their picks to Boston? Like, am I the reason that they're not that good?"

The conversation of course stemming from a question about the lack of balance in the NBA, the dearth of parity in the league. The NBA has always struggled with that, but it seems worse than ever, given that LeBron dominates the East, and now Durant is on the team that previously won 73 regular season games without him. So to that point, yeah, Durant has not helped the situation. But here's the truth of the matter...

The Magic would still be bad even if LeBron had never left Cleveland in the first place, or if Durant had stayed in OKC. The Magic are bad because of poor decisions they've made, and that is 100% true. So I'll ask again, what is wrong with what Kevin Durant said?

If Magic fans have hurt feeling because their favorite team was used in the same sentence as the sad sack Brooklyn Nets, too bad. The Magic are a laughing stock right now, they're an embarrassment, but that doesn't mean they're stuck like this forever, and certainly won't be stuck any longer because of comments Durant made.

I remember in the not-so-distant past, Golden State wasn't a free-agent destination. Now look at 'em. Their NFL neighbors (the 49ers) were a joke franchise before Bill Walsh and Joe Montana came to town. This is the way sports works, when you lose everyone laughs, and when you win, everyone's got your jersey on. The Magic are no different, and Kevin Durant's comments certainly don't change anything.
