10 Things I Bet You Didn't Know About Jeff Weltman

The Orlando Magic have hired Toronto Raptors general manager Jeff Weltman as their new president of basketball operations. One month since the Magic moved on from Rob Hennigan, the organization has a new face.

Now, let’s get to know the brand-new President of Basketball Ops. Here are 10 things I bet you didn’t know about Jeff Weltman:

1.   Weltman was the assistant GM of the Nuggets the year they drafted Carmelo Anthony.

2.   Weltman began his NBA career as a scout for the Clippers in 1988

3.   Weltman worked for the Clippers for 13 years, finishing his climb as Director of Player Personnel

4.   Weltman traded Terrance Ross to the Magic in February for Serge Ibaka, an expiring contract that he no longer needs to worry about. In that trade, he sent the Magic the 25th overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Technically, he gets that pick back now.

5.   Jeff Weltman has never been in a GM, assistant GM, or presidential role with a team that’s held the #6 overall pick.

6.   Weltman was not the GM when Bismack Biymbo was signed by the Raptors in 2015, but he was the GM that let him leave after an impressive 2016 post-season.

7.   Weltman was hired by the Raptors in 2013 as an Executive VP of basketball operations. He was only acting GM for one full season. This season.

8.   Jeff Weltman and Scott Skiles were hired by the Milwaukee Bucks the exact same year, 2008.

9.   Skiles and Weltman left the Bucks the same yearas well, 2013.

10.  Weltman was the assistant GM of the Bucks the year they drafted former Magic PG Brandon Jennings in the 1st round@ 10th overall. Weltman referred to Jennings as “A potential superstar point guard”.
