NFL Players Top 100 List Takeaways

NFL players vote on the top 100 players in the NFL leading up to every season. The top players in the NFL were revealed yesterday, honoring Patrick Mahomes as the No. 1 player in the NFL.

Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to their second Super Bowl victory in the last four years, while leading the league in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and a 77.6 QBR. I feel the players got this pick right, but let's take a look at some notable takeaways from the full list.

Here are some takeaway from the finished Top 100 list...

1) 14 QB's Ranked

96) Trevor Lawrence

86) Justin Fields

82) Tua Tagovailoa

77) Geno Smith

72) Lamar Jackson

66) Jared Goff

56) Dak Prescott

51) Aaron Rodgers

42) Kirk Cousins

32) Justin Herbert

8) Josh Allen

6) Joe Burrow

3) Jalen Hurts

1) Patrick Mahomes

My biggest takeaway: Kirk Cousins is slightly too high. He had a top five quarterback season as far as the statistics - 4,547 passing yards (4th), 29 passing TD (5th), and led the Vikings to a 13-4 regular season record and the organizations first NFC North title since 2017. However, there are two players on this list that I would confidently place above Cousins. Aaron Rodgers, and Lamar Jackson.

2) Ja'Marr Chase Was Disrespected

Chase was ranked as the 39th best player in the NFL, and the 7th best wide receiver in the NFL. Ranked ahead of him was Ceedee Lamb, A.J. Brown, Stefon Diggs, Devante Adams, Tyreek Hill, and Justin Jefferson.

Chase missed five games last season with a hip injury, but his numbers while healthy were still at an elite level compared to those ranked ahead of him. Chase's 87.2 receiving yards per game was higher than CeeDee Lamb, and within two yards per game as Stefon Diggs, Devante Adams, and A.J. Brown who all ranked ahead of him. Additionally, Chase caught nine touchdowns in 12 games, even with CeeDee Lamb who played all 17, and two less than Stefon Diggs and A.J. Brown. Whenever an injury occurs its understandable to be weary on the player the following season, but Chase was able to finish the season following his injury. He caught three touchdowns in ghe final five games of the regular season while also averaging 88 yards per game down that stretch. Chase also caught two touchdowns in three games throughout the AFC playoffs.

3) 9 RB's Ranked

With all the drama this offseason, nine running backs were voted inside the top 100, including Jamaal Williams who although led the league in rushing touchdowns last season, is as one-dimensional as can be, and free agent Dalvin Cook.

Brandon and I break down the list further today during T-Time at the top of the 4 o'clock hour on In The Zone. Tune in on 96.9 The Game or on the iHeartMedia app.
