Ranking: Kravitz's Top 5 SEC Team Heading into the 2022 CFB Season

Tuesday rankings: With SEC Media Days playing out as we speak, and my annoyance with a never ending monsoon of useless realignment chatter, I thought it would be a perfect time to talk some actual SEC FOOTBALL. And that is why, I have dug into the depth charts, I’ve evaluated the recruiting classes, I’ve gauged the temp on some hot seats, to come up with my definitive Top 5 teams in the SEC heading into 2022.

Usually I go from 5 to 1 and make it all dramatic as we build to the top of the heap on whatever that week’s list is, but we all know who #1 is, so we can start there.

1.Alabama- With another year of Nick Saban running the show, we can expect Bama to be right back @ the top of the heap. Even in what some considered a “down year” for Bama last season, they still won the SEC and played for the national championship. This year, the Tide returns Bryce Young and Will Anderson, 2 of the top players in CFB, as well as a loaded roster all around. Easy choice.

2.Georgia- Another easy choice. Even though they lost an entire NFL roster to the draft, Kirby Smart has been a recruiting maniac. He cranks out top 3 class after top 3 class, so I’m sure they have a bunch of new stars waiting in the wings. Plus, Stetson Bennett returns @ QB, Brock Bowers returns as the nation's best TE, and 3 of their 5 starting offensive lineman from last year’s team will be back as well. I don’t worry about GA too much.

3.Kentucky- Mark this as the first time Kentucky’s ever been this high on a pre-season SEC ranking. But if the game of CFB starts with the QB, Kentucky might just have the best one. Will Levis is zooming up draft boards already for 2023, he’s a picture perfect combo of size, "escapability", and a big arm. Kentucky will have the best QB in every game they play this season. On the defensive end, they bring back their leading sacker from last year as well in JJ Weaver.

4.Texas A&M-  Jimbo’s Aggies seem to stall out every year but still, its hard to overlook the talent he’s bringing in. Jimbo signs as many 5-star athletes as anyone else, and now that he’s entering year 5, the roster should be left with only Jimbo recruits for the first time. His QB room is undecided, but he’s got a couple 5-star options there and his RB replacing Isaiah Spiller is a kid by the name of Devon Achane, who is a legit world class sprinter.

5.Tennessee- Josh Heupel had his group as a top 10 offense last season and they’re only getting better. Hendon Hooker, his dual-threat QB took off last year, and he should only improve as well. Plus, they added a highly touted USC WR in the portal by the name of Bru McCoy. His defense is still a major question mark but they should score enough points to be competitive every week.
