Colin Cowherd: “Philip Rivers has become Jameis Winston and is turnover machine… You look down at the stats for Rivers and Winston and see the big box score, all the first downs, and all the passing yards, and then you see the interceptions column. It’s time for the Chargers to move off Philip Rivers. They can’t sell any tickets , have no juice in that market, and they gotta get a star at quarterback. My gut feeling is that it’s Cam Newton or they make a run at Tua Tagovailoa. The league is changing and it’s not changing in Rivers’ direction. It is a ‘precision’ league, a ‘cut down your mistakes’ league, and a ‘run for a first down if you can’t find anyone open’ league -- you can’t just keep throwing it in traffic. He looks so old and unathletic and you can’t be old and athletic in this new league.” (Full Video Above)
Listen to Colin Cowherd explain why he thinks the Los Angeles Chargers need to move off veteran franchise quarterback Philip Rivers after this season, as the 37-year-old is having one of the worst years of his career on a cratering Chargers team that once had Super Bowl aspirations.
Colin compares Rivers to Tampa Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, in that he throws for gaudy passing numbers every week but can’t seem to control his costly turnovers, as Rivers ranks second in the NFL in passing yards, but has a 15/14 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Colin says Rivers is the league’s most unathletic quarterback, and says that’s not going to cut it in a modern NFL that has largely moved off statues in the pocket.
Check out the video above as Colin details why a disillusioned and alienated Chargers fan base who has not been able to make the transition from the San Diego market to the Los Angeles market needs some JUICE at the quarterback position going forward, and either needs to sign Cam Newton in the offseason or draft Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.
