Lightning Get Shootout Win Over Ducks

The Tampa Bay Lightning (24-16-3) defeated the Anaheim Ducks (18-21-6) 4-3 in the shootout on Thursday night at Amalie Arena.

After falling behind in the first period, Anthony Cirelli scored on the power play at the 14:01 mark of the second period to tie the game. Then just 2:51 into the second Jake Guentzel scored to give the Lightning a 2-1 lead.

Later in the second, the Ducks tied it with a goal from Leo Carlsson before Brayden Point scored at the 15:26 mark to give Tampa Bay a 3-2 lead. The Ducks would tie it with a goal from Robby Fabbri midway through the third period that would send the game to overtime.

After neither team scored in overtime, this game went to the shootout. Jake Guenztel converted the only successful goal in the shootout to lift the Lightning to a second point. Andrei Vasilevskiy went 34-of-37 in net for the Lightning in this one.

The Lightning are next in action when they host the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night. Puck drop on Saturday is scheduled for 7:00 PM at Amalie Arena between the Lightning and Red Wings.
