Angels Rout Rays In Opener

The Los Angeles Angels (6-4) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (5-6) 7-1 late Monday night in Los Angeles. The win gives the Angels the victory in the opener of the three game series.

Tyler Anderson (2-0, 0.00) was brilliant for the Angels, throwing seven shutout innings in which he struck out three and walked one while allowing just four hits. Zach Eflin (1-2, 6.35), on the other hand, struggled for the Rays. Pitching on his 30th birthday, Eflin allowed five earned runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking none.

Mike Trout set the offensive tone for the Angels, going 3-for-5 with a single, triple and a homer while driving in two and scoring twice.

The Rays will now look to even up the series when they meet the Angels in the middle game of the three game series on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 9:38 PM - Ronnie Lane begins pregame coverage with the Inside Pitch at 8:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
