DeSantis Appeals Warren Ruling

TAMPA -- Governor DeSantis is challenging a federal appeals panel's ruling that may make it easier for one of the prosecutors he ousted, to return to office.

The governor's lawyers want the full 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to hear the case, opposing a motion by suspended Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren to speed things up.

A three judge panel sent the case back to a district judge who ruled that he didn't have the power to put Warren back in office, after DeSantis suspended him in August 2022.

Before the appeals panel ruling, Warren had announced he wouldn't run for re-election to the office he won in 2016 and 2020. But it's not clear that he wouldn't run again if reinstated.

Another suspended state attorney, Monique Worrell of Orange-Osceola counties, says she is running for re-election.
