10 Betting Tips for New Sports Bettors in the State of Florida

As of this week, sports betting is now legal in the State of Florida, and like many of you – I have already downloaded the Hard Rock Sportsbook app and am making bets on a daily basis. Now, whether I was doing that before or not on an off-shore account is none of your business, but nevertheless, it’s all good now. Everything is above board and we can have fun with sports betting like we should’ve been able to in the first place.

But, here’s the deal, while I am now a seasoned pro at losing money, many of you are new to the game. I can’t even begin to tell you how many people have reached out to me on Twitter, Facebook, my personal cell – telling me their latest wager on this sportsbook app. So many people out there are making bets for the first time in their adult lives, and so I thought it was important to provide some tips to new bettors hitting the market.

Here are my 10 Betting Tips for New Sports Bettors in Florida:

1.Bet with your head, not with your heart.

2.Don’t chase a bad day by trying to make it all back with a large wager, just cut your losses.

3.Develop a discipline. Come up with a set of rules for yourself to follow and don’t deviate from them.

4.Don’t try and make a living off parlays. It can be fun to quadruple your money on one night in the NBA or a Sunday in the NFL, but you will lose 80% of the bets you make, sportsbooks love when you bet parlays, so keep the wager amount small.

5.Follow trends. If a team is 6-1 against the spread in their last 7 or a team always covers on the road, buy in to stats like that.

6.Follow injury reports. Nothing worse than betting on a team to then see 10 min later that one of their best players is out.

7.Wait until the last minute. Pros bet when the #’s come out, but you are not a pro, use every last moment gathering information that will help you pick the right side.

8.Fade the public. Use sites/apps like ActionNetwork.com to see what the betting % is for public bets. Think of it this way, the public is stupid, and you don’t want to side with stupid.

9.Bet with your beer money, not your mortgage. Shoutout to Colin Cowherd for that gem.

10.Never bet on the Jags.

Side note: Best bet tonight- Bulls +2.5 vs Philly
