During the Ravens v. Steelers game there was plenty of commentary banter between Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth. It's something we've come to expect and even look forward to. There is always time to fill the silence and these two guys have done a great job handling that space.
And then it came. Tirico and Collinsworth were talking about how they met up with Pittsburgh fans and talked football. Seems pretty harmless right? They mentioned how great Steelers fans were a specifically fans from the Pittsburgh area in general. The two commentators exclaimed how excited they were about how dedicated and informed these fans always are.
Then he said it.
Cris Collinsworth said the words... "even the ladies. The minute I heard that I knew, "Oh he's going to be apologizing for that one before morning."
Really Collinsworth? You're not expecting "the ladies" to offer up informed viewpoints, great questions, and have more than a basic knowledge of the game? In 2020? He better be glad there is a pandemic going on, or this could compromise his position.
Yes, women know sports. Women have LONG known sports. AND many are more knowledgeable than your average guy fan chugging beers on a Saturday. I'm glad he apologized, but it's an example of why Vanderbilt University presenting the first woman kicker in college football was such a big deal.
Moral of the story.
Don't be like Collinsworth.
