OPINION: Yesterday, I Overdosed on Sports

I need a cigarette.

Wow! What a day yesterday was. After more than FOUR MONTHS of hearing people analyze comments of senators and hearing about growing numbers. I'm pretty sure I lost my cool more than one time hearing about "what a college football season would look like."

But now that just about everything is back, I'm overwhelmed! Was this normal? Having so many interesting topics to talk about? Did I become numb to the pure tsunami of sports news that was around?

On July 23rd, 2020 so many things were announced. To start off the NHL Seattle team announced that they do, in fact, have a name! And it might be the coolest, best fitting name I've ever heard. The Seattle Kraken.

Hockey hits it out of the park with team names and this is another example. The logo is clean and I'm excited to see this team play when they make their NHL debut.

Dr. Fauci threw out the first pitch of the MLB season for the Nationals vs the Yankees and it went...fine I guess.

*Insert just a bit outside joke here*

It wasn't a great first pitch but the game was good! The Yankees won 4-1 in 6 innings after lightning stopped the game. Giancarlo Stanton and Adam Eaton went yard in the first inning for their respective teams, exactly the kind of baseball I want to see. Is there something higher than cloud 9? I think at this point I was on cloud 12.5.

Then on to the other side of the country for the Giants and the Dodgers where the Dodgers cleaned up the Giants with no problems, 8-1. Even in that game there were a couple of interesting stories. Dustin May became the first rookie to pitch on opening day for the Dodgers since 1981 because ace Clayton Kershaw went down on IL before the game.

YOU'RE TELLING ME I WENT OVER FOUR MONTHS WITHOUT LITTLE NUGGETS OF INFO LIKE THAT ONE!!! I'm sweating from this influx of information.

Oh and how did I forget that baseball EXPANDED ITS PLAYOFFS. Yeah! They added six more teams to the playoffs. A 16 team playoff in MLB is surely going to create more interest in the regular season and the playoffs. Good things all around.

AND THEN THERE WAS MIKE TYSON ANNOUNCING HE WILL FIGHT ROY JONES JR.

*sweat drips from forehead*

Mike Tyson is returning to the ring alongside Roy Jones Jr. They announced a fight that will happen on September 12th of the year 2020. Will it be the greatest fight ever? No. Do I care? Also no.

I think I got it all in here but look at this list of things that happened yesterday. That was a daily amount of news when the world was normal. How did I become so numb to it all? I am having a true joy right now knowing that I can talk to someone about something that isn't a social justice movement or politics. I don't have to hear a constant barrage of negativity about testing, deaths, and fear. I have a place that I can shut it all out for a brief moment in time and get some rest. This is what I wanted when I said I want sports back. The relaxation. The ability to care about something that in the end, whatever happens happens and I won't be worse for it.

I overdosed on sports yesterday, but I couldn't be happier about it.
