How social media is affecting the mental health of NBA players

Recently, Adam Silver spoke at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston and one of the topics that was being discussed was the mental health of NBA players. "We are living in a time of anxiety," Silver said. "I think it's a direct result of social media. A lot of players are unhappy."

We have seen players such as Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers and rookie sensation Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks speak out about the issues of social media and how it affects their mental health. Said Young after a poor performance in an NBA Summer League game against the Grizzlies, "Of course it's tough. I just go back to the hotel and relax, not even turn on the TV, because I know they will be talking about me. [The criticism] isn't gonna help me. I've tuned out social media because that's a place that can really bring you down if you pay too close attention to what everyone is saying. So I don't."

You can listen to what Stan Van Gundy had to say about that and more here.
