The search is over.
UCF, FSU, and Florida got their men. After a whirlwind of drama, rumors, and speculation - each of these schools landed what they perceive to the "the guy" who can take them to the next level. Now, 2 questions must be answered: Which was the best hire right now? Which coach will be most successful moving forward?
Dan Mullen came to Florida from Miss State where he coached up a QB you are all very familiar with now, Dak Prescott. He lead a Bulldogs team to 5 seasons of 8 wins or more, a feat not easy achieved in Starkville.
Josh Heupel was a surprise to all of us when he was announced the next HC @ UCF. Another 'out of left field' hire by AD Danny White. But it makes sense, he was highly productive as the OC for the Oklahoma Sooners years ago, and his offense ranked inside of the top 10 nationally this season with Missouri. He runs the same type of offense as Scott Frost and seems to be a perfect fit schematically.
Willie Taggart was in year 1 at Oregon this past season, but the former USF coach couldn't pass up an opportunity to take his "dream job" when FSU came calling. The Florida man will be hot on the recruiting trail, that we know, but can he win games at a place that's really only seen 2 other coaches? Taggart's resume is that of a rebuilder. He built up Western Kentucky, and made USF into what they are today.
