Despite Georgia's insane dominance over the past 2 seasons, we still have a list of contenders for the crown in college football. But, the list only runs 10 deep...
Here's the criteria:
Gotta have a mix of stellar QB play and some semblance of defense…with a clear path to making it to the CFB Playoff. (Teams like ND were excluded due to a gauntlet of a schedule and USC was left out because of their swiss cheese defense)...Here are the true 10 contenders!
1. Georgia- Starting 4th year Junior Carson Beck @ QB. But all they need is a game-manager.
2. Michigan- JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum, studs all over their defense. They allowed 16ppg last year and they’re supposed to be even better this year.
3. Ohio State- We still don’t know who the starting QB is going to be @ Ohio State. But we know they’re throwing the ball to Marvin Harrison Jr, so they should be okay.
4. Bama- Saban is picking between 3 QB’s this year, including Jalen Milroe who we got a look at briefly last year. Doesn’t feel like its their year but you can’t leave them off a list like this.
5. LSU- Top tier defense, top tier job in the portal from Brian Kelly, and a Heisman hopeful in Jayden Daniels.
6. FSU- Same exact thing can be said about the Noles.
7. Clemson- Clemson went 2 straight seasons out of the playoff, but that was after spending 6 straight seasons in it. They should have a top 5 defense and I guess Cade Klubnik is supposed to be pretty good.
8.Texas- The most talent Texas has had since Vince Young was on the team. Steve Sarkisian might screw it up, but they’ve got a shot.
9. Tennessee- Joe Milton is supposed to be that guy. Biggest arm in CFB. Heupel clearly building something @ UT. There’s belief there, and their defense isn’t as bad as you’d think…top 35ish. Good enough if the O is special.
10. Utah- Back to back Pac 12 titles- One of the best defenses in the country. Really comes down to Cam Rising and his return off his ACL tear.
