It's time to slow down the hype train!
Few people have been as vocal this offseason as Jags fans, and those excited to see Trevor Lawrence. And while we shouldn't hate on any fans, being hopeful about their team. It's also very important to stay realistic. the fanbase of the Jacksonville Jaguars did not do that. And thus, they plummeted back down to earth yesterday around 2:30pm.
3 / 11 on third down, nearly 100 yards in penalties, and 3 interceptions and Jags fans are reminded that they are a team rebuilding with a rookie QB and a 1st year coach. What does all this mean? It means we can chill on the Trevor Lawrence hype.
And in the middle of it all, there is this report that comes out from CBSSports.com’s Jason La Canfora...
“There have been repeated issues with other coaches on staff, with Meyer’s temper and lack of familiarity with the ebbs and flows of the NFL calendar rubbing the Jacksonville Jaguars staff and players the wrong way, the sources said. There is a disconnect at times between the members of the staff with extensive pro experience and those who lack it, and morale has suffered as the outbursts have continued. His fiery remarks to players and coaches after games have already struck many as bizarre.”
Yea maybe the Texans are going to be way better than we thought. Or maybe they'll still have 3-4 wins at best this season.
And yes, we fully expect Trevor Lawrence to develop and grow, and for his team to build around him. But for now. Stop the Jags to the playoffs talk. It's not happening.
Lawrence completed 53% of his passes and often looked flustered and uneasy. And honestly, that's EXACTLY what we should expect from a quarterback in his situation.
Brand new coach.
Brand new staff.
Underwhelming offensive line.
Receivers who are a little better than mediocre.
This is going to take a while, and in the meantime, twitter is doing what twitter does.
