Marc Daniels: Tebow's Blocking, Conference Collusion, Sugg's Thumb And Cake

An attempted block by Tim Tebow in the Jaguars preseason opener against the Browns went viral and not because of how good it was. Playing tight end, Tebow tried to block a Browns player and barely touched him as running back Dare Ogunbowale cut back to gain positive yards. By Sunday night, the highlight clip had more than 4.5M views. And there was no shortage of critics ripping Tebow for the attempted block. For goodness sake, get over yourself. If you actually thought Tebow was a threat to anyone in camp, that's on you. He likely will not make the team and probably should not stick much longer in camp. But I still don't know why Tebow bothers people. He's not taking a roster spot from anyone. The Jags have other tight ends that will fill their needs at that position. Why did Urban Meyer bring him to camp in the first place? Who cares. At 33, Tebow got a chance to put on a uniform again and play a game he loves. No, it's not at quarterback and this experiment will be over soon. But the guy does things we should praise and yet in this social media world of hate, it's easier to laugh at a meme of him attempting to make a block and fail. Great, all the perfect people have been heard...

I was in a pet store the other day and saw the cost of a goldfish was $2-4. Inflation has hit this item as well. I used to pay less than a buck to replace several that went to the big pond in the sky when my kids were young...

I see where commissioners of the Pac 12, ACC and Big Ten spoke about some sort of an alliance. Let me break it down for you. This about telling the SEC that while they just got bigger and increased their media money, the other conferences with value are not about to let the SEC and ESPN take total control of college football. Their likely plan is to make sure they are on the same page about not letting ESPN renew the playoff media package during their exclusive window. They want the deal to go to the open market and let CBS, FOX, Turner, NBC and anyone else show their interest. Why not hear what they want to offer? Why not have multiple networks be part of an expanded playoff? Why not do like the NFL, NBA and MLB do by allowing multiple networks to own a piece of their postseason? Despite growing to 16 teams, the SEC still has just one vote and the Pac 12, ACC and Big Ten combined have three votes on these issues. As for the Big 12? Again, reality is settling in and the remaining eight schools are realizing they have nowhere to go and their options are limited. Texas and Oklahoma and their decision to leave for the SEC, may cost each remaining Big 12 school hundreds of millions of dollars over the next decade...

I looked at the many apps that were on my phone. I counted and realized I use less than a third. I tried to delete a few and they make you feel so guilty with the "do you really want to delete this app" message. Yes, I do. The app that allowed me to create a drum solo is one I don't see myself using any time soon...

Jalen Suggs' thumb injury doesn't appear to be a concern so I won't make it one. I saw enough of Suggs to believe he can be the Magic's best player sooner than later. I do believe he can play with Markelle Fultz in the backcourt but I also believe he is the best point guard on the team...

If you want to overanalyze the play of rookie NFL quarterbacks in preseason games, have at it. But at least recognize who these QBs are actually playing with and against. A rookie QB moving down the field against a group of defensive players hoping to make a roster as opposed to those who will be starting games does matter. Meanwhile, Trevor Lawrence will be fine but he is also playing average to below average lineman. Getting a lot of pressure is not something he dealt with at Clemson and that is a huge adjustment...

You can make the case for the White Sox Tony LaRussa and even the Yankees Aaron Boone as a manager of the year candidate but to be really honest I am not sure how anyone can vote against me and my fantasy team that despite so many injuries I am right there in a playoff race...

If you don't love pound cake, we can't be friends. Why is it called pound cake? Because the recipe, which dates back to the 1700s called for a pound of flour, sugar, butter and eggs. Sweet!...
