It is official that players can now be paid for the their name, image and likeness. In fact some players have already started cashing in. D'Eric King of the Miami Hurricanes signed a deal at the stroke of midnight that will pay him over $20,000. But all of this means it may be the end of r Dabo Swinney's reign at college football juggernaut Clemson.
Well, not really of course... but he SAID he would quit.
“As far as paying players, professionalizing college athletics, that’s where you lose me,” Swinney said, according to Yahoo Sports. “I’ll go do something else because there’s enough entitlement in this world as there is.”
That wasn't the only time he ran his mouth about not wanting players paid...
"Who knows? They may do away with college football in three years. There may be no college football. They may want to professionalize college athletics. Well, then, maybe I'll go to the pros. If I'm going to coach pro football, I might as well do that," Swinney said, to ESPN.
So can we expect you a letter of resignation from the coach at the top of the ACC?
Doubtful. But leave it to twitter to remind to be the ones who decided to poke the bear.
