Federal Authorities seized over 280 fraudulent championship rings at a sports memorabilia outlet in Oviedo Florida. Replica rings being sold as the real thing from the NBA, NFL, and WWE were seized from Friendly Confines Collectibles in Oviedo.
Homeland Security Investigations acting deputy special agent in charge David Pezzutti said “Counterfeiting creates wide-reaching dangers to society. Buying counterfeits – even though it may seem harmless to a consumer – hurts local and global economies, endangers people’s health and generates revenue for organized crime and even terrorism.”
The agency reportedly apprehends more than $4.3M in counterfeit merchandise across the country, every day.
Officials made a previous seizure in November, when they captured 54 fake NFL and 30 fake NBA rings shipping from CHina and on their way to Friendly Confines in Oviedo. No precious stones or metals were said to be found in the counterfeit rings.
