What I Believe: Herbie Apologizes, UCF And A Bowl, And A Future Jags QB

Penn State v Michigan

1. On the College Football Playoff show, Kirk Herbstreit said he would not be surprised if Michigan "waved the white flag" and opted out of their game with Ohio State next week. He then went on twitter after the show to apologize to Michigan and added he had no proof of what he said and then added he is just frustrated in a season of opt outs and cancellations. If Michigan cannot play Ohio State then the Buckeyes would fall short of the minimum number of games needed to play in the Big Ten Championship.

What I still believe is even if the Buckeyes do not play for the conference title the committee will take a 6-0 Ohio State squad and try and sell you why that resume is more playoff worthy than 11-0 Cincinnati.

2. The ACC adjusted its schedule for the next two weeks.

What I believe is the league knows it has a chance to get two teams into the playoffs and made the business decision to allow Notre Dame and Clemson to have time off before playing again and if the Irish play Clemson close, it may get both into the playoff.

3. UCF has completed its regular season and now waits and wonders about a bowl game. The challenge for Josh Heupel is keeping your team motivated for the next 2-3 weeks and then play in a non-major bowl game.

What I believe is UCF knows where and who it is likely playing. Keep in mind, a number of bowls have already canceled and my guess is more will follow. Because of that, all conferences are racing to grab spots and some lower tier bowls may get a chance to get teams from leagues they normally would not.

4. The Ravens and Steelers will finally end the longest week in NFL history by playing an afternoon game today.

What I believe is the NFL is doing everything possible to play the Super Bowl on the originally planned date.

5. College basketball is trying to start its season and yet is finding the challenges of playing during the pandemic. Many teams have had to pause activities and numerous games have been canceled or postponed. Heck, the Maui Invitational is being played in Ashville, North Carolina.

What I believe is, like college football, there will be some teams who play 25-28 games at the end of the season and some who play as little as 15-18 and still make the NCAA Tournament.

6. Tom Brady and Bruce Arians may not be on the same page and that frustration is showing. The Bucs are now battling for a wildcard spot. Tampa Bay still has a favorable schedule down the stretch and a 3-1 finish in the final four games would make the Bucs 10-6, a record many felt would be a good season before 2020 kicked off.

What I believe is both Brady and Arians are back next year and a full off-season and healthy line will have Brady still going strong at 44.

7. Trevor Lawrence will be the first pick in the NFL. The Jets are in position to go winless and make Lawrence the franchise quarterback. Who will be his coach next season? And if the Jags end up picking second, who is their coach and will they select Ohio State's Justin Fields?

What I believe is Michigan's Jim Harbaugh will be very intrigued about the Jets' job because of the chance to have Lawrence. Whoever is the Jags' coach should have a say in who they draft but don't be shocked if BYU's Zach Wilson shocks many by skyrocketing up the charts before the draft.

8. Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. fought to a draw in their recent exhibition and now Buster Douglas says he wants to fight Tyson 30 years after their famous fight.

What I believe is......................................I DON'T CARE

9. The Orlando Magic get set to open training camp and the team has basically made the choice to bring back the same team as last season. Yes, Jonathan Isaac is out for the year and Mo Bamba has still not recovered from the virus and the Magic are hoping Chuma Okeke is a steal and Cole Anthony becomes an impact role player immediately.

What I believe is I just have a hard time getting excited for a team that made no move to improve its weaknesses and will be stuck in the NBA abyss where teams fight to finish between 7th and 11th in the east.

10. McDonald's brings back the McRib for its limited run.

What I believe is, there is nothing rib about it

Final thought: George Washington did ruin his teeth chewing on walnut shells but he never had wooden teeth. Washington got teeth from a variety of places, including cows and even some made from lead.
