It was months ago when Rudy Gobert touched the reporters' microphones. It was months ago when Rudy Gobert was the first NBA player to catch COVID-19. Last night, he scored the first points in the NBA's return. Seems like some kind of poetry.
Poetic justice? Poetic injustice?
It's weird to think that the guy that we think of as the villain who brought the NBA to its knees is the guy who gets to ring in the season's return. It doesn't sit well with me. It's not that I don't want him to have redemption and it's not that I harbor any ill will toward Rudy Gobert, but it's more about wanting justice to be served.
I wish Donovan Mitchell had gotten the honor. He was the one who caught the virus from Gobert and he was vocal about his displeasure over it.
When it comes down to it, it doesn't really matter. The NBA is back! That's exciting. It just doesn't sit right in my mind. Does it sit well in yours?
