Tua Tagovailoa, in an announcement widely anticipated since he was drafted, revealed to the world he will wear jersey No. 1 for the Miami Dolphins.
Among the numbers Tagovailoa had discussed potentially wearing in the NFL before the draft were 1 and 2. But in Miami, punter Matt Haack wears 2.
13 and 12 are retired (Marino and Griese) so he settled on 1. Here's a brief history of the #1 in pro sports:

The most well-known player to wear 1 for the Dolphins is kicker Garo Yepremian, who wore the number from 1970-78.
