Alvin Kamara and Christian McCaffrey both came into the league in 2017 and both have put up gigantic numbers during their time in the NFL.
With the Saints, Kamara split time his first couple years with Mark Ingram and still managed to put up over 2,400 yards and 27 touchdowns on the ground while adding 243 catches for 2,068 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Saints. Christian McCaffrey has had significantly more touches (nearly 200 more rushes and 77 more receiving targets) throughout his career but has made the most of them, becoming the third running back in NFL history to join the 1,000-1,000 club (rushing and receiving yards). He also set the NFL record for receptions by a running back with 116 last season and has eclipsed the 100-reception mark in consecutive years.
For CMC's efforts, the Panthers decided to make him the highest paid running back in the NFL with a four-year, $64 million extension.
CMC, because he was a first-round pick, still had two years left on his rookie deal, assuming the Panthers would have exercised their fifth-year option on him.
Alvin Kamara was a third-round pick, therefore does not get a fifth-year option, so he is in the final year of his contract. While playing Call of Duty online, Kamara reacted to his fellow NFC South dual-threat back getting paid.
The Saints have Drew Brees under contract for two-years and locked up Michael Thomas to a large contract. It seems that Kamara could be the next in line for not only the Saints, but the running back position to receive an enormous pay day. Unless the Saints decide to franchise tag him.
Either way, the next running back to get paid out of the NFC South looks like it will be Alvin Kamara.
