Lou Gerhig's Bat Sold at Auction for $1 Million

Lou Gehrig is an icon of baseball. His famous speech at Yankee Stadium will not be forgotten. That's why when a piece of memorabilia goes up from his career, it's a hot commodity.

The treasure this time is a bat that he used in 1922.

According to ESPN Writer Tom Van Haaren:

Ivy said this is the most significant Gehrig bat in the hobby because it is one he sent to Hillerich & Bradsby, which made Louisville Slugger bats, when he joined the Yankees in 1924. Gehrig sent it to be used as a model for any other bats the company produced for him.
