Before Dillon Gabriel threw for 347 and 4 TD's he was just a freshman who had been given a couple chances in the 2 games prior to the showdown with Stanford. Gabriel flashed in those two appearances with incredible accuracy and abiltiy to throw the deep ball. He was competing for the starting job with graduate transfer from ND, Brandon Wimbush, and Gabriel had been given the job the week prior.
Josh Heupel chose to stick with Dillon, giving the freshman his first home start, and we were off to the races.
UCF was up 38-7 at the half en route to a 45-27 win, their 3rd of the year.
Coach Heupel said after the game:
"I think people that watch us play, know that we play championship caliber football," the second-year coach added. "We'll hold our own every single week. They're probably the most competitive group of kids that I've ever been around. They knew this was big." (More recap here)
