We got into this discussion yesterday, with the impact Shaquem Griffin has made on the UCF program, is it enough to warrant a jersey retirement?
Now the way UCF usually does things is as follows:
UCF retires a student-athlete's jersey but does not retire the respective jersey numbers. The Knights coaching staff can choose to reissue a given number, as the retirement of the jersey does not require that the number not be worn again.
What we're talking about, is taking the #18 out of rotation forever. Some people are going to say, that's not what UCF does and they should stay true to that, some are going to say, if you retire a number - it has to be Culpepper's first and foremost. But, from the inspiration, to the nation-wide exposure, popularity, the undefeated season - and all of that - you could argue that no one has made the impression on UCF that Griffin has.
So, what do you say Orlando?
