Outside The Box Way To Settle NFL OT

Looking at things from CV’s POV.

Just as there is no crying in baseball; there should be no tying in football.

The NFL has been tampering with rules and game play for the last few years to make the game safer for the players. The latest alteration is to shorten the overtime period from 15 minutes to 10 minutes. This could lead down a path of the NFL getting rid of the overtime period altogether, which would mean more ties.

I am here to provide an alternate and safer way that the NFL could play the overtime period. One that does not end in a tie and still provides the same, if not more, drama.

Let overtime be decided by kickers…and only kickers.

Here’s how I would envision this playing out:

1- Coin flip decides who kicks first

2- Ball will be set up at the 30-yard line in the middle of the field (47-yard field goal and will be uncontested)

3- The first kicker will kick five times, followed by the opposing kicker and whoever has the most made wins

4- If there is a tie at the end of the first five kicks, move the ball back five yards and repeat the process (and so on and so forth)

This way not only keeps the players safe, but it keeps overtime short. It also adds more relevance to the kicking game.

I know your mind is blown right now, but something like this is better than the NFL trying to force out overtime. As I said before, there should be no tying in football.

Feel free to tweet me @CVazquez613. I would love to hear some feedback or how you would do like to see overtime played.
