Orlando Pride Players Added To Women's World Cup Rosters

Several members of the Orlando Pride will be representing their countries throughout the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Featured on the U.S. WNT’s 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup roster are forward Alex Morgan, defender Ali Krieger and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris.

Morgan, 29, will play in her third World Cup this summer. In 2011, Morgan made her Women’s World Cup debut, playing in five matches and recording two goals. In the final that year, the California native became the first player to score a goal and record an assist in a World Cup Final. Morgan returned to the World Cup in 2015 and helped the U.S. win its third-ever trophy. Morgan featured in all seven matches for the U.S. WNT and scored the game-winning goal in the Round of 16 match against Colombia.

Krieger, 34, also heads to her third World Cup after posting one of the best-ever team defensive performances in 2015. During the U.S. WNT’s victorious run through the 2015 tournament in Canada, Krieger was part of a backline that held opponents to just three goals over all seven matches with five straight shutouts from the second group stage game to the semifinal. In 2011, Krieger scored the game-winning goal in penalty kicks to send the U.S. WNT past Brazil in the quarterfinals and eventually lead the team to the final against Japan. After being one of four USA players to play all 600 minutes in the tournament, she was named to the 2011 Women’s World Cup Best XI.

Harris, 33, has been selected to her second World Cup roster. A native of Satellite Beach, Fla., Harris was one of three goalkeepers during the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Canada, making her a world champion in her first major tournament. She has totaled 21 appearances with the U.S. WNT over her career - including two games played thus far in 2019 - and is averaging a shutout every three matches. The captain for the Orlando Pride, Harris currently leads the NWSL in total saves.

Brazilian Women’s National Team Head Coach Oswaldo Alvarez, better known as Vadão, has named 2 members of the Orlando Pride to the roster, defender Camila and six-time FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year, Marta.

Camila, 24, will play in her first Women’s World Cup this summer. The defender, who plays forward for the Pride, has appeared in 10 matches for the senior national team, scoring two goals in that span, both at the 2017 Tournament of Nations. At the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, she appeared in all three matches for Brazil and recorded one assist. Camila is in her third season with the Pride and sits currently with 39 appearances, scoring four goals and adding five assists in her time with the Club.

Marta, 33, will compete in her fifth World Cup this summer. The six-time FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year has competed in 18 matches at the world’s most prestigious tournament, playing every minute of each one. She has totaled a record 15 goals in World Cup play while adding five assists. Her best performance came in 2007 when she was awarded the Golden Ball, an award given to the tournament’s most valuable player, and the Golden Boot with seven goals scored. In that same tournament she led Brazil to a runner-up finish, the best in the nation's history. Her performance throughout that tournament led her to be named to the 2007 Women’s World Cup Best XI, an honor she also received in 2011 when she won the Silver Boot with four goals scored. Marta is in her third season with the Pride, totaling 45 appearances with 17 goals and 10 assists.

Canada Women’s National Team Head Coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller announced the 23 players who will represent Canada at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France this summer. Among those selected was the Pride’s lone Canadian international, defender Shelina Zadorsky.

For Zadorsky, 26, this is the first World Cup selection of her career. The Ontario product made her senior debut in 2015 and has recorded 52 appearances for Canada. Zadorsky has been a part of the Canadian program since she made her youth debut in 2008 for Canada’s U-17 Women’s National Team, recording spells with both the U-17 and U-20 squads in her international career before being called up to the senior team.

Australian Women’s National Team Head Coach Ante Milicic named the 23 players who will represent Australia at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France this summer. Featured on Australia’s roster are two Orlando Pride players in midfielder Emily van Egmond and defender Alanna Kennedy.

Van Egmond, 25, will play in her third Women’s World Cup this summer. The midfielder scored one goal in three appearances during the 2011 Women’s World Cup, while appearing in all five of Australia’s matches in the 2015 Women’s World Cup. Van Egmond made her Australian senior debut in 2010 and has compiled 85 appearances for the Matildas since. In that time, van Egmond has scored 18 goals. The midfielder is in her second season with the Pride, currently with 22 appearances overall.

Kennedy, 24, will compete in her second World Cup this summer. In the 2015 Women’s World Cup, Kennedy appeared in all five matches, leading the Matildas to the World Cup quarterfinal where they eventually fell to Japan. Kennedy earned her first senior national team appearance in 2012 under former Orlando Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni. The defender has played in 77 games, scoring seven goals in that time. Kennedy is in her third season with the Pride, currently with 49 appearances and eight goals scored including a bicycle kick against Reign FC this season.
