Jameis Winston's Days Should be Numbered in Tampa

Buccaneers - Jameis Winston

The Bucs are on a three-game winning but it may be too little, too late as they sit three games back of Minnesota with three games to play and multiple teams still in front of them for the final wild card spot.

Bruce Arians is known for his work with quarterbacks and was thought to be able to come in and get Jameis to cut down on his turnovers. In Arians' first year as the Bucs head coach, that has not happened. Now the Bucs face a decision since Jameis is in the final year of his rookie contract. They could franchise tag him but that's a lot of money ($27 million roughly) to give a quarterback one year to prove himself.

So what do the Bucs do?

I'm in the camp that says it's time to move on. You've seen what Jameis can and can't do. He can put up the massive amounts of passing yards and a good amount of touchdowns per year but the turnovers and losses continue to derail his career. Through 13 games this season, he has 23 interceptions and five pick-6's.

Yes, the 4,000+ yards and 26 touchdowns are nice, but their record is 6-7, and that's been the story of his career. In five years, the Bucs have had one year with a record above .500, Jameis was suspended after an Uber driver accused him of sexual assault, and has been benched in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Yes, the Bucs have not had a decent run game or defense but the elite quarterbacks don't need the perfect situation in order to win. Look at examples like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson.

Don't be fooled by this tweet sent out by CBS Sports HQ.

Jameis Winston has had five years to prove who he is and what he can do. What Jameis Winston is, is a quarterback who can put up ridiculous passing yards, throw for a lot of touchdowns, but will always turn the ball over and can't put together a winning season.

It's time for the Bucs to move on. Who knows, maybe a change of scenery could be good for Jameis Winston.
