Iowa basketball player comments on "racist" comment made by PBP voice

Gary Dolphin, a fan favorite broadcaster, who is the University of Iowa’s football and basketball play-by-play man, came under fire after he said on Tuesday that Bruno Fernando, who is black, “was King Kong at the end of the game.”

Dolphin has been suspended for the remainder of the season. Tyler Cook, who is also on the Iowa basketball team comments on the issue.

The story actually goes a bit deeper. Earlier this season, Gary Dolphin found himself under fire for comments he made while he thought he was off the air, when indeed his mic was "hot" (as we call it in the business). He criticized one of Iowa's guard's for dribbling into a double team. Below are the post game remarks from Iowa coach Fran McCaffrey. I think his obvious disdain for Dolphin gives us some more insight into why he was punished so harshly for his latest remarks.

We'll discuss further this afternoon on In The Zone (3-6pm) stay tuned!
