(Miami, FL) - Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is suing streaming giant, Netflix, for allegedly harvesting and "logging" child user data. Something he says, "Netflix vowed never to do."
He says, "We would like Netflix to purge the harvested data, and the design tricks the company uses to hold kids' captive." He added, "We are seeking billions in damages with enhanced civil penalties for preying on children."
Netflix’s minors' data policy states that its "service is not directed at children under 13 and that it does not knowingly collect personal information from this age group."
A Florida mother joined Uthmeier in the press conference from Miami saying, "Big Tech companies should face greater responsibility when collecting children’s data."
Ivette Arango O’Doski added, "This is not about being anti-technology. Technology used properly can be highly beneficial to our family, including our children. This is about drawing a very clear line and understanding that innovation does not eliminate responsibility."
Uthmeier referred to Netflix in jest as, "A logging company that occasionally streams movies."
