The Tampa Bay Rays (70-46) defeated the Seattle Mariners (56-62) 3-2 on Saturday night in the Pacific Northwest. The Rays have now won the three-game series in Seattle and have won five games in a row, improving to 24 games above .500 on the season.
Victor Mesa Jr hit a solo home run in the fourth inning and Richie Palacios had a two-run single in the sixth inning to account for the Rays offense in this game. With Griffin Jax a late scratch because of an elbow issue, Steven Matz (5-4, 5.64) got the win out of the bullpen after pitching two scoreless innings. Bryan Baker closed down the ninth to earn his 34th save of the season.
