Islanders Shut Out Lightning

The New York Islanders (16-10-3) defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning (16-10-2) 2-0 on Saturday night at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa. For Tampa Bay, it was their third straight loss, and second loss to the Islanders in three games.

This game was scoreless into the third period, before New York took the lead when Calum Ritchie scored on a power play at the 12:46 mark. The Islanders added an empty netter when Casey Cizikas scored with two seconds to go in the third period.

Ilya Sorkon made 30 saves for the Islanders to secure the shutout win, while Jonas Johansson went 17-of-18 in net for Tampa Bay in the losing effort.

The Lightning now go on the road for the next four games beginning when they go to Toronto to play the Maple Leafs on Monday night. Puck drop Monday night is scheduled for 7:30 PM between the Lightning and Maple Leafs in Toronto.
