Rays Snap Skid, Take Opener From Brewers

The Tampa Bay Rays (14-16) defeated the Milwaukee Brewers (17-11) 1-0 on Monday night in Milwaukee. The win snaps a three-game skid for Tampa Bay, who were swept by the White Sox in Chicago over the weekend.

Ryan Pepiot (3-2, 3.12) was brilliant in this game, allowing just two hits and no walks in six innings of work in which he struck out seven. A bullpen combination of Shawn Armstrong, Kevin Kelly and Jason Adam combined to secure the shutout. Adam allowed the bases loaded in the ninth but got out of it to earn his first save of the season.

The Rays got their only offense in the first inning - with the bases loaded and nobody out, Isaac Paredes grounded into a double play that brought in a run. That would prove to be enough offense to win the series opener in the interleague series.

The Rays and Brewers now meet in game two of the three-game series on Tuesday night. First pitch from Milwaukee is scheduled for 7:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
