Week 6: Brandon Kravitz's CFB MEGA-PREVIEW

Let’s take a look @ the biggest games inside and outside of the sunshine state. Some curious lines and news to follow along with this weekend:

Top headlines:

·Eriq Gilyard transfer

oWe touched on this a bit yesterday…here’s what he said:

o“I want to thank you for the last four years,” Gilyard wrote on Instagram. “It is with mixed emotions today I announce my goodbye. My time here has been nothing less than amazing.

o“I feel it is in my best interest that I redshirt this season, graduate this fall and take my talents to another university.”

oEntering this year, Gilyard earned preseason second-team all-conference honors from Phil Steele’sCollege Football Preview Magazine.

oI wonder if it’s the losing…we are talking about a guy who signed with UCF in 2017…much different scene then. I can’t say I’m shocked.

·Derek Stingley out indefinitely

oStingley, a junior, originally injured the foot in the summer but was able to return and play in the Tigers' first three games this season.

oESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. lists Stingley as his third-best player eligible for the 2022 NFL draft.

oHere’s my issue with Stingley- he had 6 INT’s in his freshman season. He’s had zero since. So you are going off of prospect alone with him.

·Is the Big 10 taking over CFB?

oOne of the big storylines playing out this season is the down nature of the SEC overall – despite the massive success of Bama/Georgia. But it’s the Big 10 with 4 teams inside of the top 10, by far the most of any conference. Iowa 3, Penn 4, Ohio State 7, Michigan 9.

oChaos is paying off for the Big 10…

§Through five weeks of the season, 34 ranked teams have already lost, the most through that span in the history of the AP poll, which dates to 1936.

§Best conference?

Upset alert: (for the record, had NC State 2 weeks ago, Virginia over Miami last week, Cincy over ND)

Arizona State (22) hosting Stanford- Friday night games are always weird. Plus, Stanford has already gotten USC’s coach fired for a loss and then last week they beat #3 Oregon 31-24 in OT. Watch out for this Stanford team.

OU (6) vs Texas (21)- Red River SHOWDOWN. Apparently they’ve changed it. Too much of an alliteration with rivalry. OU has been flirting with defeat for weeks. The bubble is bound to burst. 6 point win vs KSU last week, 3-point win vs WV the week prior, and a 7-point win vs Nebraska when they had they beat early on 3 weeks ago. Texas will have the best player on the field – electric RB Bijan Robinson. 2nd most rush yards in CFB. 6.2YPC. Only a 3-point spread…I’d go Texas.

Ole Miss (17) hosting Arkansas (13)- favored by 5.5 We’re about to find out which hang over game is worse…one where you get bludgeoned by Georgia or one where you get bludgeoned by Bama. History tells us its Bama. Plus, Arkansas plays this wacky old-school defense where they just sit back in zone and rush 3 defenders. Sounds like a tough matchup for Matt Corrall who feasts off of man coverage and getting out into the open field. Not a lot of open field vs the Razorbacks.

In-State Focus:

Honestly…the games this weekend are WOOF.

Miami isn’t playing- they might still find a way to lose.

FSU is in North Carolina to play the Tar Heels- 17.5 point underdogs

Florida is home vs Vandy (homecoming week)- 39 point favorites! For reference…this team lost to Georgia 62-0. Beat UCONN last week by 2 points…despite the fact that I’m pretty sure UCONN fields players from their basketball team. Their coach quit midseason. Strong bounce back for Florida on the way.

I guess we’ll focus our attention on UCF hosting East Carolina-

·Game is @ 6pm Saturday night – UCF favored by 11 despite having dropped their last 2 games.

·The Pirates of EC however are on a 3-game winning streak. Wins over Marshall, Charleston Southern, and Tulane in consecutive weeks.

·Holton Ahlers their QB is a fairly accurate lefty (junior) – completing north of 60% of his throws…this team isn’t a push over by any means. Last year he threw for over 200 yards on this UCF defense…3 TD’s. UCF won the game 51-28 – DG was red-hot in that game
