At a media event for the U.S. Olympic team the star of the women's soccer said, โIt is really unfortunate in the position he is in, having all the resources he has and then having the ability to have a much more educated opinion that he just hasnโt." Right smack dab in the middle of the NCAA uproar over the inequality of the men's tourney and women's tourney, Draymond said women athletes need to stop โcomplainingโ about the difference in pay. He said it's time for them to start taking action instead.
This did NOT sit well with many in the sports community, especially women athletes. And one women's sports star in particular had something to say about it, Megan Rapinoe. In fact it lead to the two of them having a short lived debate on twitter.
Green continued, โItโs coming off as a complaint because the people who can change it are just going to continue to say, โWell, the revenue isnโt there. If you donโt bring in the revenue, we canโt up your pay.โ Theyโre going to keep using that, but the reality is, as true as that is, itโs an excuse. Everyone says, โWe support women. We support womenโs empowerment. We support women in the workplace. We do this for women. We do X for women. Blah, blah, blah.โ โ
Rapinoe was not impressed with his statements or his explanation.
