The Buccaneers made official Friday that defensive coordinator Mike Smith, a candidate to leave for head coaching jobs elsewhere, has agreed to a new multi-year agreement keeping Smith in Tampa Bay.

"I am excited about what we are building here in Tampa Bay," Smith said. The full statement is available (here).

Many fans were worried Smith would leave after just one year on the job, but he made it clear that his tenure will at least be for three:

"It became very clear to me that I am in an ideal situation here. For the next couple years, I am fully committed and focused on my role with Dirk (Koetter) and the organization.. and will not be pursuing head coaching opportunities during this time."
